Oct 11, 2004  -   5 lbs of heroin seized
Here is photo from a seizure at Calexico POE on 10-11-04 with 5 kilos of heroin.

We saw the same bag at the San Diego airport last month when 4 kilos of heroin was seized. Subject had taken bus from El Centro to San Diego and was flying to NYC.He had already made one trip successfully.

The 1st defendant has provided info about a second courier who used the greyhound to travel form El Centro to Phoenix and then a plane to NYC. We know here name but do not have a solid ID on her.

All questions should be directed to Alan Karas, DEA (619) 683-3508. SA William Mataya, Calexico ICE has the second case with a similar bag seized at Calexico POE, (800) 972-2867 more photos >>

May 7, 1999  -   8 lbs of heroin seized
click for a larger photoThe Cincinnati/N.Kentucky Airport Task Force seized approximately 8 pounds of heroin from a male Mexican, flying on a round trip, cash ticket, purchased from a Mexican travel agency. They conducted an encounter and received a consent to search his one piece of checked luggage. They identified a medium size, soft sided suitcase that emitted a strong odor of glue - NO DRUG ODOR. Upon checking the contents, they noticed an audio cassette carrying case. The case was heavier than others and further examination of the case disclosed false bottoms affixed to the plastic trays and painted to match the trays. They  separated one of the trays and recovered heroin, wrapped in clear plastic. An arrest of the subject was made. He advised he was transporting cocaine. Further examination of his suitcase was conducted, revealing an empty suitcase, weighing over 15 pounds. They checked the frame of the suitcase, discovering it was constructed of fiberglass and recovered additional clear plastic packages of heroin. The clear plastic packages were lined with carbon paper. It's unknown if the carbon paper was utilized to reduce the heroin odor or if it was used to match the coloring of the  suitcase. A total of 7 packages of heroin were recovered. If you have any questions, please call The Cincinnati/North Kentucky Airport Task Force (606) 767-3123. >>more photos
