This is a 40 hour clan­des­tine lab cer­ti­fi­ca­tion course. This course not only cer­ti­fies those as clan lab tech­ni­cians, but it also cer­ti­fies them as site safety and inci­dent com­man­ders for clan­des­tine lab sites. This course is for both police and fire per­son­nel. This course teaches labs from both a police and fire stand­point which results in the safest best prac­tices for not only pro­cess­ing labs; but also ensur­ing suc­cess­ful pros­e­cu­tion. This class clearly defines the roles of police and fire as they work together to safely process these unique sit­u­a­tions as clan lab sites are both a crime scene and haz­ard mate­ri­als site. CLEE hours will be avail­able for course

Dur­ing this course, stu­dents will learn the following:
  • Iden­ti­fy­ing clan­des­tine metham­phet­a­mine and con­ver­sion laboratories
  • Crime scene / haz­ardous mate­r­ial site
  • One pot A.K.A. “shake & bake”, red phos­pho­rus A.K.A. “red P”, anhy­drous ammo­nia A.K.A. “anny” methods
  • Butane Honey Oil (BHO) A.K.A. wax / but­ter labs
  • Haz­ards and risks asso­ci­ated with each dif­fer­ent phase of the lab processes to include com­po­nents and chem­i­cals com­monly used in the vary­ing meth­ods of man­u­fac­tur­ing meth
  • Under­stand­ing the health haz­ards and envi­ron­men­tal risk that is unique to meth and con­ver­sion labs for increased offi­cer safety
  • Pro­cess­ing the scene
  • Site safety & Inci­dent command
  • PPE to include level A
  • Phys­i­cal char­ac­ter­is­tics of haz­ard mate­ri­als com­monly used in clan labs
  • Air mon­i­tor­ing
  • Iden­ti­fy­ing chem­i­cals / sampling
  • Decon­t­a­m­i­na­tion
  • Under­stand­ing the effects of metham­phet­a­mine on the user and how they per­ceive law enforce­ment response.
  • Using pseu­doephedrine sale data­bases for iden­ti­fy­ing per­sons asso­ci­ated with meth cooks

Per­son­nel attend­ing this course must have a com­pleted phys­i­cal form to include pul­monary func­tions test (PFT) in order to attend this course for com­pli­ance with OSHA stan­dards for use of SCBA within the last year
