This 3 day course is sponsored on behalf of the NC Justice Academy and INIA and will be held from April 14-16, 2020 (Tuesday-Thursday). The cost of 3 day class is $125 per person. The class will be located at the North Carolina Justice Academy, 3971 Chimney Rock Rd, Edneyville, NC, 28727 in the mountains of North Carolina. The nearest airports are Asheville,NC (AVL) an approximately 15 minute drive or Charlotte (CLT) an approximately 1 1/2 hour drive.  Housing is provided on-site for free, with two students per room.

The class will be closed once a total of 40 students has been reached. All attendees must be a current sworn law enforcement officer, prosecutor or intelligence analyst. Credentials will be verified.

Class Description (3-Day Seminar)

The presentation will outline the characteristics and indicators common to traveling drug couriers and parcels containing illegal narcotics. The course teaches methods utilized to assist the officer in developing partnerships with the local hotels, motels and main parcel companies to identify violators who transport and travel with or use private carriers to facilitate narcotic and currency trafficking. The instruction includes case law issues, investigative techniques and safety issues to be concerned with in working hotel/motel and drug parcel interdiction cases. The course will also detail methods of conducting controlled deliveries of drug parcels. The course will be taught by recognized experts in their respected drug interdiction field.

Topics include the following:

1. Understanding the mission of and how to initiate hotel/motel and parcel narcotics
interdiction programs.
2. How to initiate and begin relationships with hotel, motel and parcel company
management and staff.
3. Understand indicators and characteristics utilized by drug traffickers using parcels to
ship drugs and currency.
4. Understand the methods used and characteristics associated with drug couriers who
are traveling throughout the United States.
5. Current drug smuggling trends and techniques.
6. Understanding officer safety methods involved in the unique nature of hotel/motel
and drug parcel investigations.
7. Discussing case law concerning hotel/motel and drug parcel investigations.
